Why Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer Was Marketing Phenomenon!

Yesterday, Star Wars: The Last Jedi Official Teaser was released and from a marketing expert, it is a really great marketing concept.

If you didn’t already know, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the next movie in the Star Wars Saga and follows the events after The Force Awakens and not Rogue One. The new movie plans to include much more of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and will no longer feature Harrison Ford as Han Solo due to his on-screen death in The Force Awakens but will still feature Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia even after her tragic passing in 2016. The new cast will still feature Daisy Ridley as Rey (Kenobi?/Skywalker?/Solo?) and John Boyega as Finn.

So why is this a Marketing Phenomenon? Well, one reason is because they use call backs to previous films. For instance, in the background you can hear whispers from Leia to Obi Wan, Vader Breathing, and Yoda and Palpatine talk about the dark side. These allusions to other films are great because they bring fans of other films that are not big fans of the New Trilogy in and make them want to watch is for nostalgia.

Another great thing the teaser does is the it actually is a teaser. What I mean by that is that it is actually teasing the film and does not give us much if any information about. I hope Disney and Lucusfilms continue to do this as mystery will pull more people in and it will be more enjoyable for them when they watch the movie. One reason I didn’t enjoy The Force Awakens as much as I wanted to be because if you go back and watch all the trailers and teasers for the movie, then you can piece together the entire plot. With this teaser I do not have a clue how the plot of this story would be. Even Luke’s line “It’s time for the Jedi to end” leaves us clueless on what he means. Is Luke now in favor of a grey area or balance? Has Luke turned to the dark-side? Has he just gone mad? We don’t know because the teaser gives us no hints about it at all. This is something that all movies should be doing, getting us intrigued in the movie, but not giving us anything about the movie for us to be able to slightly figure out what happens. The Force Awakensgave us so much that some people were even able to predict Han Solo’s death! I think The Last Jedi will be much more promising than The Force Awakens was and has a chance to even be better than Return of the Jedi, A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith, and could even challenge The Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One.
